Reel Creative

December 2023

Overview

This digital education charity empowers children in Hull from diverse backgrounds by unlocking their creativity and digital fluency. Their mission is to promote technological literacy for all local children, bridging the gap for those who may not have had such opportunities before.

Reel Creative is a digital training charity designed to cater for children in Hull from a multitude of backgrounds. They strongly believe that promoting technological literacy is key for all local children, regardless of their background, to help them navigate an increasingly technology-driven world and obtain the most positive outcomes possible.

By democratising access to professional-grade equipment, Reel Creative bridges the gap for those who might not have had the privilege of such opportunities in the past.

The mission of Reel Creative is to spark the innate creativity that resides within their learners. Through carefully curated courses and experiences, they aim to kindle imagination, foster self-confidence, and instil a broad spectrum of new skills that empowers local learners in an increasingly digital era.

The knowledge of the team at Reel Creative spans a wide range of digital media: from learning the art of video production and podcasting, to diving into the world of filmmaking; from practicing the skills required to create engaging animations, to mastering the concepts behind graphic design, and experimenting with AI.

All these practical, immersive experiences are delivered in a state-of-the-art professional film studio located on Clough Road in Hull.

The £2,000 awarded from the John Good Group will enable Reel Creative to purchase resources such as cameras, laptops, tablets, and essential software subscriptions, levelling the playing field for those who may not otherwise have access to these critical tools.

Being shortlisted is incredible. We are a small, high impact charity open to all voluntary sector leaders across South Yorkshire. Many of the charities we support are small or medium sized organisations, the smallest being a food bank and community larder operating from the founder’s own house.

Support for us means support for a wide range of diverse charities from across the region, resulting in a significant impact for a large number of communities and service users.
