Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

 

The John Good Group was founded in 1833 and has become one of the leading names within the shipping industry both within the UK and overseas. Over the years, the business has grown significantly. Now a multi-subsidiary group, it offers a wide range of services across three main sectors of shipping and logistics, warehousing and distribution and corporate travel, employing over 300 employees.

Carefully planned acquisitions and continuous investment has meant the group has grown significantly and prides itself on holding a portfolio of businesses that reflect the values and ethos of the Good family itself.

The John Good Group is fully committed to complying with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (“MSA”) and all other applicable legislation.

1. Organisational Structure for Logistics

The company is managed by a board of Directors.  Our subsidiary companies operate independently but work together wherever possible and are represented on the Logistics Executive Management Team.  Subsidiaries include Trans-European Port Services, Felixstowe Warehousing, DAN Shipping & Chartering and Bay Shipping.

2. Commitment Statement

Modern slavery and human trafficking are serious crimes and violation of an individual’s basic human rights.  John Good Logistics is committed to operating with transparency and to high ethical standards and in line with our disclosure obligations under the MSA. We are committed to working with integrity at all times when engaging with customers, contractors, and suppliers.  As part of our commitment, we expect all our partners within our supply chain to operate to the same standards and to hold their own suppliers to the same standards.

 3. Our Supply Chains

We are a logistics business that is engaged in all aspects of the supply chain involving the movement and distribution of goods globally. Aside of our UK operations, we have overseas offices in both Turkey and the United States. Our key trading areas are China and Far East Asia, Indian sub-continent, Turkey, the Middle East and Europe.

Our supply chains involve working with domestic and overseas customers; overseas agents; warehouses; shipping lines; trucking companies; airfreight providers; port authorities; IT software providers.

4. Our policies on slavery and human trafficking

We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. Our Anti-slavery and Human Trafficking Policy reflect our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our supply chains.

Other key policies related to modern slavery and human trafficking are:

Whistleblowing Policy – we encourage both our employees and our customers to report any concerns related to the direct activities or supply chains of the organisation.

5. Due diligence processes for slavery and human trafficking

John Good Logistics has identified agency labour as the main area of risk where human trafficking and modern slavery could occur. To ensure compliance with the MSA, John Good Logistics does operate a preferred supplier list for agency labour and for use in recruitment for permanent roles.

As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk we ask all new suppliers to disclose their policies on the MSA Act and to demonstrate their compliance with the Act.

We have in place systems to:

  • Identify and assess potential risk areas in our supply chains.
  • Mitigate the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring in our supply chains.
  • Monitor potential risk areas in our supply chains.
  • Protect whistle blowers.

6. Supplier adherence to our values and ethics

We have zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking. To ensure all those in our supply chain and contractors comply with our values and ethics, we have a dedicated compliance team which consists of representatives or involvement from the following departments:

  • Legal
  • Audit and compliance.
  • Human Resources.
  • Procurement
  • Sales

7. Training

To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we provide training to our staff. More details of this are set out in our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy.

8. Our effectiveness in combating slavery and human trafficking

To help support our commitment to preventing slavery and human trafficking in any part of our business or within our supply chains we commit to:

  • Raising awareness to all employees across the business on the MSA Act.
  • Maintain excellent levels of communication with our customers and suppliers to ensure they are clear on our expectations and comply with our stance on MSA and human trafficking.

9. Further steps

Following a review of the effectiveness of the steps we have taken this year to ensure that there is no slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains, we intend to maintain high standards of communication and development of all our employees on:

  • The principles of the MSA Act.
  • Things to be mindful of when going about our day-to-day business and being able to identify when things are not right.
  • How to handle a modern slavery or human trafficking issue.
  • Where to seek further support.
