Business Development Manager

Hybrid working (2-3 days office)

Salary £45k-£60k plus car allowance and bonus

Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week – flexibility to travel across the UK, overnight stays, and visits to offices in Hessle, East Yorkshire, Cardiff, and London.

About the Role

We are hiring for a Business Development Manager – Maritime to undertake a hybrid role with access to the London, Cardiff, and East Yorkshire offices.

The role will support the growth plans for Dan and Bay Shipping through the building and exploring of new and existing pipeline opportunities with the port agency and chartering industry.

This position would suit somebody who is a ‘go getter’, excellent at chasing leads, closing deals, and making sales.  You may be an already experienced and proven Business Development Manager with several years’ experience in the maritime sector looking for a change or an Executive ready to take that next step up. Either way we will give you the support and development to help you to succeed.

The role will include:

As a Business Development Manager, you’ll:

  • Contribute to the overall development of a market driven sales strategy that drives business growth
  • Establish and execute a pipeline of monthly sales
  • Account Management of existing customers understanding annual spend and how further to develop the business relationship to achieve growth
  • Prepare quotations and lead tendering / proposal opportunities and develop highly effective tenders / proposal submissions
  • Maintain a sales database of contacts, targets, opportunities and actions and track through CRM 
  • Represent the company at industry and trade events – generating leads, promoting the services of both Bay and Dan Shipping
  • Work with Group Marketing Services to develop a marketing plan to cover all marketing and trade show requirements
  • Manage the onboarding process of new accounts and effectively communicate details to relevant internal stakeholders

About you:

  • Experienced and established Business Development Manager or Executive (you could be looking for your next step) / Sales Manager from within the Maritime industry
  • Proven track record of business development that has delivered results / revenue – you will need to have the ‘sales hunter’ mentality to find and convert prospects to sales
  • Awareness of the maritime / ships agency and vessel chartering industry and understanding of what is going on and where there are opportunities
  • Confident communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence
  • Already established and credible within the markets and have good UK Port contacts  
  • Solid understanding of ship agency (dry bulk) and vessel chartering, covering vessels up to Handy size within European, East Med, North Africa range
  • Understand of logistics, ports, and terminals, including shipping, transport, and customs trade policies
  • Strong relationship builder and can demonstrate building relationships with internal teams
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Full UK Driving license with willingness to cover UK
  • Flexibility – can attend networking events, dinners, exhibitions
  • Incredibly organised and capable of working in a constantly changing environment
